Alison Evans handles a multidisciplinary portfolio related to issues at the Department of Defense (DOD), National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Alison focuses on smart cities, consisting of embedded systems and the internet of things, and how these devices are responsibly integrated into communities and organizations. Additionally, Alison closely tracks the Department of Defense research enterprise, including defense health programs, and uses her knowledge to position faculty and universities to successfully compete for research funding and elevate awareness of clients’ expertise within the Department. Alison works closely with early and mid-career faculty to help them access federal research agencies and opportunities, and to foster the inclusion of the academic community in complex social and technical issues with lawmakers and their staff.

Additional Experience: Before joining Lewis-Burke, Alison gained federal science policy experience as the Public Affairs Intern at the American Geophysical Union (AGU), where she supported social media communications and grassroots advocacy to promote the importance of the geosciences including climate, weather, and space research. Alison previously worked in Arizona politics as the Government Relations Intern for B3 Strategies, a lobbying firm in Arizona, where she researched energy and healthcare legislation. She was also a research intern at Arizona State University’s Consortium for Science Policy and Outcomes, analyzing issues related to federal science policy education for early career faculty.
Vital Statistics: Alison remains a dedicated Sun Devil and graduated summa cum laude from Arizona State University, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry. Alison was born and raised in Arizona and misses quality Mexican food and the dry desert heat.
