Funding for Construction of New Radio Telescope
Working with Congressional allies, Lewis-Burke Associates LLC (Lewis-Burke) has obtained more than $50 million over the last three years to initiate construction of a major new international radio telescope facility in Chile. The telescope, which is one of the top priorities of the astronomy community and several of our clients, represents a strong international collaboration among countries on three different continents. The $500 million, 64-antenna telescope was not initially included in President Bush's FY 2002 budget even though the National Science Board approved it. But, after LBA worked with Members of Congress and committee staff to demonstrate the facility's importance and readiness, as well as the international implications of beginning construction in FY 2002, the funding was made available.
