Michael L. Ledford

 Michael Ledford, Vice President for Client Management, joined Lewis-Burke Associates, LLC in March 2000. He directs the efforts of Lewis-Burke government affairs professionals on behalf of all clients. In addition, he is primarily responsible for the company's work involving the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the Department of Transportation, the National Science Foundation, and the Department of State and Department of Homeland Security’s policies regarding immigration, and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services.  He also works on research and development issues within the Department of Defense.

During his tenure at the firm, Mr. Ledford has worked to shepherd large-scale science projects through the Congressional Appropriations and oversight process. He has also successfully handled numerous Congressionally-directed projects in various appropriations accounts. In addition to the appropriations process, Mr. Ledford has assisted clients with strategic assessments of key research programs, worked with agency officials to enhance research initiatives, and participated in numerous coalitions to advance client agendas.  Following the events of September 11th, 2001, he also actively participated in an effort to stymie a Congressional attempt to place a moratorium on the issuance of international student visas.

As part of the client's advocacy strategy, Mr. Ledford has proposed and drafted legislation creating federal programs to advance client interests, worked with client administrations to manage the complex federal response following natural disasters, and coordinated with hospital administrations during interactions with the Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Mr. Ledford holds a law degree from Georgetown University’s Law School and a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in political science from American University in Washington, D.C. He is also a member of the Pi Sigma Alpha and Phi Beta Kappa honor societies.
