Sarah K. Spreitzer
Sarah Spreitzer focuses on issues regarding education policy and funding, international education, intellectual property, workforce and economic development, humanities, and environmental issues. She comes to Lewis-Burke Associates from the University of Washington’s Office of Federal Relations. As Assistant Director at the UW DC office, Sarah handled a substantial portfolio of issues, including education, humanities, and ocean and environmental issues, working to communicate and facilitate issues of importance to key congressional offices and agency representatives from the Department of Education, NOAA, NASA and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). Sarah also played a key role in shaping the annual institutional federal agenda, as well as crafting the advocacy strategies to carry the priorities to Capitol Hill.
Ms. Spreitzer has held key leadership positions within the higher education advocacy community. She has been chairperson of the Association of American Universities (AAU) Higher Education working group, chair of the AAU Humanities working group, leader of the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges (NASULGC) Council on Government Relations (CGA) taskforce on Higher Education, and most recently as Secretary for the CGA and vice chair of the AAU Council on Federal Relations (CFR) steering committee. Through these leadership activities she has been an active leader in helping to set community advocacy strategies and communicate community priorities to the federal audience.
Ms. Spreitzer received her bachelor’s degree in anthropology from Beloit College in Wisconsin and a master’s degree in Medieval Studies from the Catholic University of America in Washington DC
