Case Study: Coalition Building
Advocacy for Mathematics Research
A long-established national organization of applied mathematicians and computational scientists grew increasingly concerned as federal support for their field stagnated for a number of years. The organization retained Lewis-Burke to make the case to Congress and the Administration for a new infusion of federal funding for mathematics at several agencies. Lewis-Burke worked to convince key policymakers that significant increases were needed to boost the technological and human resources in this vital discipline. As a result, funding for the National Science Foundation's mathematical sciences research program grew by more than 65 percent over 3 years and has remained a priority for key policy makers. |
