Case Study: Positioning

Influencing Agency Research Agendas

In support of the public policy agenda of a university-based marine science laboratory, Lewis-Burke Associates LLC arranged a number of events to raise the visibility of the laboratory’s leadership on specific environmental and marine research programs and budget issues with key decision makers. A series of well-timed, focused discussions with officials from the relevant federal agencies, the Office of Management and Budget, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, and selected Congressional committees with oversight for these issues took place over a three month time span. The result has been subsequent agency policy and program proposals that are supportive of and consistent with the client’s interests. At the same time, faculty associated with this laboratory have been asked to serve on related federal agency advisory committees to help further develop related agency policy and program proposals.
