Case Study: Program & Project Support

Major New Gravitational Physics Facility

After Congress twice denied the Administration's funding request for a major new physics facility, Lewis-Burke worked with a client to inform members of Congress of the project's importance based on its scientific merit. Lewis-Burke and the client convened a series of meetings and developed a range of educational and informational materials for use with various members of Congress and their staffs to educate them about the project. Later, after sites for the facilities were selected, Lewis-Burke successfully sustained annual funding for the project by involving the relevant state Congressional delegations. Funding in fiscal year 1998 completed six years of construction support for this major scientific instrument, totaling nearly $300 million.
